1. PRIVATE CLOUDI love the overall look and feel of this rocking bed, Private Cloud by Manuel Kloker. In the most basic terms, it’s a patented rocking frame for a bed, that moves back and forth just like a rocking chair. The idea behind this stems back to childhood – Kloker figured that adults would be able to use the rocking effect to chill out, calm down and relax as studies have shown that when rocking, the blood-brain barrier is broken through causing the brain to spill out messengers. The theory is that the more a person is rocked back and forth, the further and further they go into a kind of trance. Every Private Cloud comes complete with ‘flexible feet’, which can be used to transform it into a ‘normal’ bed without the rocking motion. Additionally, the feet allow for the bed to be fixed in various different positions with the idea that it may be more comfortable when reading or watching television etc.

2. THE SCOOP!I’m not usually a fan of sofa-beds as they are typically clumsy to assemble and not very appealing to the eye. However, The Scoop! is in a totally different league. Designed by Guido Rosati for Saba Italia, this bed-come-sofa is innovative and sophisticated. The two semi-circular sides of the bed can be separated to form two new pieces of furniture – a great way to suprise and show off to your guests!

3. THE VERTICAL BEDThe Vertical Bed, by Ernesto Neto, allows you to sleep while standing up… I’ve never seen anything like this one. It’s such an unusual creation. I’m not quite sure what the implications of sleeping in a vertical position every night would be. It looks quite comfy though… almost memory-foam like.If sleeping while standing up has always been your dream, this might just be your chance to live it…

4. THE FETAL POSITION BEDThis just keeps getting wierder…I’m really not sure about this one – you definately can’t roll over in this bed! Designed with the fetal position in mind, this creative bed is clearly designed for people who don’t move a muscle in their sleep.
Definately not for me…

5. THE YING YANG BUNK BEDThis creative bunk bed has been designed by the oh-so-clever Alessio Pappa.I really like this one as at first glance it doesn’t resemble a bed in the slightest. I’ve struggled to find further research on this one so I’m not sure if there’s more than meets the eye in terms of comfort etc.

6. THE “FEEL SEATING SYSTEM CLASSIC”Made of 80 soft and ‘pleasant’ balls, this is the perfect fit for any size space. It can change it’s form to have mutliple positions for sitting or laying down. The number of available positions is as wide as the imagination…However, I’m not sure it’s worth the hefty price tag for what is basically just 80 foam balls!

7. THE GIANT BIRD NEST BEDCreated by Merav Eitan and Gaston Zahr as part of the Green Garden Exhibition, this giant bird nest bed looks very comfortable and inviting. It is literally a gigantic bed which could probably accommodate your whole family and more.
With this bed, what you see is definately what you get.

8. THE LETTO ZIP BEDThe Letto Zip bed comes from Florida Furniture and is perfect for those who dislike making their bed in the morning. The cover literally zips off with great ease, therefore being very practical for the user who can prepare the bed in a quick and simple way. With a soft curved frame, this bed is both practical and aesthetically pleasing, and will have a major effect on the overall interior design.

9. THE BOOKCASE BEDKaren Babel has came up with a creative and innovative space-saving solution; the Bookcase Bed. A mattress stands upright in four parts and forms the bulk of the bookcase. The parts of the mattress surround five storage shelves which are suspended by a wall mounted frame. To create the bed, you simply slot the mattress sections togther on the floor – two parts for a single, or all four parts to create a double. Sneaky!

10. THE EARTHQUAKE-PROOF BEDDesigned by Wang Wenxi, this high-tech bed is able to automatically be turned into a ‘strongbox’ to help people surivive in the event of an earthquake. On each end of the bed lies modular furniture, including cuboards and a high-load bearing board which can be used for regular storage needs. If an earthquake occurs, the idea is that the cupboards can be used for storing the neccessary things for survival until you can be rescued.
